LIVING IN THE SOUTHWEST - FROM SANT AGUSTÍN TO PORT ANDRATX
The southwest is the hotspot for real estate on Mallorca. The reasons are obvious: the proximity to Palma and a perfect infrastructure for foreign residents with international medical practices, schools and service providers. On top of that, a mountainous landscape whose foothills gently slide into the sea, leaving enough space for long sandy beaches and fine harbours.
The southwest is perfect for those who want to live at the highest level in a multicultural environment. Scandinavians feel just as much at home here as English, Germans, Spaniards and Italians. There is a wide range of properties on offer, from classic fincas with horse stables to luxury villas by the sea and modern apartment complexes with spacious wellness areas.
Of course, the sea is always in view.
We travel from Palma to the southwest and present the most popular places.
In the neighbourhood of the island metropolis
Leaving Palma de Mallorca in the direction of Port Andratx, the island metropolis merges almost seamlessly into the luxury residential district of Sant Agustìn. Popular within international property buyers, the place has built up an amazing infrastructure. Families appreciate having the Baleares International College right in town, yacht fans anchor in their own harbour and sun lovers will be happy on the sandy beach with beach club. Restaurants, shopping and leisure facilities are plentiful. And if you long for more, you can be in Palma de Mallorca in just a few minutes. In the middle of it all and yet a little bit away - that's how life in San Agustín can describe with its chic new-build flats and sea-view villas.

Living next the royal golf course
Elegant villas and modern flats nestle against the royal golf course of Bendinat, the heart of the urbanisation, which flows smoothly into Illetas and Portals Nous. The green lung, a challenging 18-hole course, reaches almost to the sea and is a quiet antipole to the bustling island metropolis, only a 10-minute drive away.
Sea fans will be happy in the small rocky bays with shady pine trees, longer sandy beaches are Playa de Oratori in neighbouring Portals and the beach of Illetas.
The luxurious yacht harbour of Puerto Portals with its numerous restaurants and shops can be easily reached by car (3 kilometres) or via the cycle path "Passeig de Calviá".

Portals Nous, Puerto Portals and Costa d'en Blanes
The luxury marina of Puerto Portals is not stingy with its charms. The best yachts of the Mediterranean are lined up here, royal families and VIPs stroll through the finest boutiques and the restaurants are bustling. After all, Puerto Portals is all about "seeing and being seen".
Above the harbour, chic villas and flats nestle against the mountain, forming the Portals Nous urbanisations with several hotels.
There are even more sea views in Costa d'en Blanes, built far above the port on the foothills of the Sierra Na Burguesa. Here, residents retreat to luxurious estates and watch the hustle and bustle in the marina from afar.
The urbanisations around Puerto Portals are an international hotspot and attract families as well as couples. The infrastructure is excellent with international, accredited schools (Agora Portals International School, King Richard College), medical centres, banks, shopping facilities and several sandy beaches. Palma is only a 15-minute drive away by motorway.

Ensaimada, tennis and golf
Santa Ponsa is a popular tourist resort thanks to its long sandy beach, just 20 minutes from Palma. However, those who own a property in Santa Ponsa usually live far from mass tourism. Nova Santa Ponsa is a modern quiet residential area with views of the sea and outskirts. Like an ensaimada, the chic estates wind their way up the hills or nestle in the front row of golf courses. There is no sign of tourism here, but a lot of Mediterranean life with all amenities. On the doorstep of the residential area of Nova Santa Ponsa there is the luxury yacht harbour Port Adriano, designed by star architect Philippe Starck. Noble and quaint restaurants as well as chic shops line the harbour promenade, which ends in a long sandy beach.
Golf fans can choose between 3 excellent, flat courses in Santa Ponsa, and tennis is not played just anywhere, but where world-class stars compete in the annual Mallorca Championship.

Camp de Mar
Claudia Schiffer once lived here
With every kilometre you drive away from Palma de Mallorca, it gets quieter and nature takes over. This is also the case in the village of Camp de Mar with its small but fine sandy beach, the higher foothills of the Tramuntana and the well-known golf course "Golf de Andratx". Those who own a property in Camp de Mar are looking for tranquillity, but still international chic. After all, here, only a 30-minute drive from Palma, you are far from the hustle and bustle and yet so close to fine restaurants, shops and shopping opportunities - the sophisticated harbour of Puerto de Andratx is just around the corner. Only a small coastal road separates the tranquil Camp de Mar from the neighbouring marina and makes it the perfect place for sophisticated nature lovers.

Llauts meet luxury yachts
The chic marina of Port Andratx is one of the most beautiful on the island. Like a fjord, the sea cuts far into the bay, at the end of which lies the elegant marina. Impressive, luxurious villas perch on the mountains, lovingly restored fishermen's houses line the coast. The island's typical fishing boats share the sea with superyachts, and on the palm-lined promenade you get a bit of a "Sant-Tropez feeling": everything is less fussy than in Portals, smaller, more colourful and still quite chic. No wonder that numerous stars call Port Andratx their own. There is hardly any other place on Mallorca where impressive nature, originality and luxury come together in such a perfect symbiosis.
Thanks to the international residents, Port Andratx offers an excellent infrastructure of doctors, shopping and sports facilities. If you long for the big city, you can be in Palma de Mallorca in just 35 minutes.
The only thing you won't find in Port Andratx are long sandy beaches. Small bays or your own pool in the Mallorca property invite you to cool off.
